Can a Money Tree Be Propagated by Cuttings in Water? Learn the Correct Method

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Money trees (Pachira aquatica) can be propagated by cuttings in water; the process is simple and easy to maintain. For water propagation, choose a healthy branch, remove the lower leaves, and keep 2-4 leaves at the top. Make the cut at a 45° angle and apply some rooting powder as appropriate. Add water to one-third of the container, place the prepared branch in it, and change the water once every 3 days. After it roots, add water as needed and change the water once every half month.

I. Is It Possible

Money trees can be propagated by cuttings in water; the water propagation method is very simple to carry out and very easy to maintain. With water propagation, there is no need to worry about watering at all; if too much water is added, you can simply pour some out. Unlike soil cultivation, it does not require repotting, and you can see the growth of the plant's root system at any time.

However, soil cultivation grows faster than water propagation, and plants grown in soil have stronger resistance. If your usual plant care is not very expert, you can use the water propagation method.

II. Water Propagation Method

1. Selecting the branch: For water propagation, choose a healthy, vigorously growing branch, cut off the leaves at its base, and keep 2-4 leaves at the top. The cut at the base should be smooth and preferably at a 45° angle, which can appropriately increase the contact area with water and is also very beneficial for rooting.

2. Preparation for cuttings: To help it root, apply some rooting powder to the cut or soak it directly in rooting water. Add water to one-third of the prepared water propagation container, then place the branch in it; do not let the leaves touch the water, to avoid the leaves rotting.

3. Water propagation care: Before it roots, change the water once every 3 days. After rooting, there is no need to change the water often; you can add water regularly, and when the temperature is high, mist the leaves as appropriate. Once it grows larger, repot it in time, change the water once every half month, and give it a little nutrient solution each month as appropriate.
