Can Succulents Be Placed in the Sun? A Detailed Guide to the Correct Way to Sun Them
I. Whether They Can Be Placed in the Sun
Succulents can be placed in the sun. Although they like sunlight, if the sunlight is too intense or the temperature is above 30°C, it is best to keep them indoors or take shading measures. You can let them receive light in the summer morning, and at noon place them in a spot with indoor scattered light.
However, succulents that have just been bought or have just been successfully propagated are not suitable for being placed in the sun. When the root system has not yet restored its normal function of absorbing water, exposure to light will increase water evaporation, thereby putting it in a state of water deficiency. After a few days of growth, it can properly receive light, but the light should not be too intense.
II. Points to Note
When letting succulents bask in the sun, ventilation should be appropriately increased. In a high-temperature, ventilated environment for a short period, they will not get sunburned. If they grow in a hot and stuffy environment, they will easily die.
III. Sunburn Problems
Basically, if succulents receive 4-6 hours of light every day, that is enough to meet their normal growth needs. If the light is too intense and causes sunburn, they need to be promptly placed in a cool, well-ventilated spot for care, and they will slowly recover. However, once the leaves are sunburned, it is difficult for them to recover; they will gradually fall off after a period of growth, but new leaves will sprout.
