These useful tips will help you grow the best tomatoes and ensure you have as long a time as possible to pick fresh, delicious tomatoes. Here are some useful tips to help you learn how to grow tomatoes in summer and keep producing delicious tomatoes for as long as possible.

1

Watering

During the growing process, watering is very important, and the watering process is best kept as regular and consistent as possible. When you water, give your tomato seedlings a good soak, then wait until your tomato growing medium dries out before watering thoroughly again, and just repeat this cycle.

If you water rather haphazardly, this watering method will cause the tomato fruit to crack, and the fruit quality will not be good.

2

Fertilizing

Once the plant starts to flower, each time you water your tomatoes, you can add a liquid fertilizer to the water. You can choose a liquid tomato fertilizer, such as a potassium-rich tomato feed, which can promote fruit swelling and ripening.

General plant fertilizers will stimulate excessive, unnecessary growth of tomato leaves.

So each time you add fertilizer to the water, just use half the amount recommended by the fertilizer manufacturer.

3

Pinching Out

If you are growing tomatoes using the vine-training method, then remove the side shoots growing between the main stem and the tomato branches. It is best to pinch them off when they are still small, because they will grow quickly and use up a lot of the nutrients meant for growing into fruit.

If you let them grow, then your tomato seedlings will turn into a tangled mess, out of control, and before you know it, you may have a whole patch of "jungle" plants!

4

Dealing with Fruit Rot

Tomato fruit can form brown patches at the bottom of the fruit, which indicates that the plant is lacking calcium fertilizer. Of course, you cannot "cure" fruit that is already affected, but when you need to water, you can add a teaspoon of lime to the water when you water. This will give the plant more calcium and help produce fresh, clean fruit.

5

Pruning Leaves

When your tomatoes grow tall, the leaves at the bottom of the plant become a burden, gradually turning yellow and useless. At this point, pinch off the growing tip of your tomato, and afterward, cut off the bottom two pairs of leaves. This will help the plant convert nutrients into high-quality fruit.

Moreover, handling it this way also makes watering easier for you. With fewer leaves in the way, you can easily deliver water to the plant's roots, so you can water sufficiently quickly. Now that you know these tips, go tend to your tomatoes right away, and you will soon be harvesting sweet tomatoes!
