There are quite a few flower growers nowadays. Basically, walking down the street, at least eight or nine out of ten people have plants and flowers at home. When it comes to growing flowers, many people, besides enjoying them, are mainly looking for a bit of fun in life, and growing flowers also cultivates the mind!

But growing flowers is actually a technical skill. Only by properly learning about flower care can you grow them well. For example, some of the most common bits of flower-growing knowledge are probably unclear to some growers, who just grow flowers by feel. Things like when to water and when to fertilize are actually knowledge in themselves. Next, let's first share about the issue of fertilizing.

How exactly should you fertilize flowers to do it well?

First, we need to understand one principle: no matter what kind of flowering potted plant it is, it needs fertilizer to grow well. Don't think that pothos, pennywort (Hydrocotyle vulgaris), or cactus don't need fertilizing! Second, the fertilizer flowers need must be "light fertilizer." The biggest taboo in fertilizing flowers is strong fertilizer, because it can easily burn the plant's roots to death, and then the leaves turn yellow and the flowers drop.

Besides the "light fertilizer, frequent application" mentioned above, there is one more thing to understand. That is, when is the best time to fertilize? Is it better to fertilize in the morning or in the evening of the day?

On this question, there is actually no very standard answer, but based on the growth characteristics of flowering plants - photosynthesis during the day and transpiration at night - fertilizing in the evening is a bit better. Why? Because at night the plant carries out respiration, and at this time it consumes more water and needs more nutrients and energy, making it the most suitable time to fertilize. Also, fertilizing in the morning, especially in summer, means the daytime temperature rises too quickly, and the soil temperature climbs rapidly, causing the fertilizer in the potting soil to break down at high temperature, which can easily burn the root cells.

When fertilizing flowers, it is better to fertilize in the evening of the day. Moreover, after fertilizing in the evening, water again the next morning; after sitting overnight, the fertilizer will also be absorbed very well. By the way, one more reminder for growers to note: when fertilizing flowering potted plants, remember to stop watering two days beforehand, and do not water immediately after fertilizing.
