When osmanthus drops its leaves, these points are key. If you notice them, soak the roots with "it" and it will burst with new shoots in autumn
What should you do when four-season osmanthus drops its leaves? This is a question I answered in a Q&A, and I'm sharing it as an article for my followers.
You said you bought it in April. At first it grew very well, but later its leaves gradually dried up and dropped. Looking at your pictures, none of the conditions osmanthus needs to grow were met, which is why this situation occurred.
Osmanthus likes high air humidity. If the air humidity is too low and the light is a bit strong, its leaves will start drying from the edges. If the air humidity is too low and the potting soil is short of water, it can also cause leaf drop. Your potting soil looks extremely dry.
When growing osmanthus, you must keep the potting soil moist and place it in a very well-ventilated environment. Poor ventilation will cause its leaves to turn black and drop. Low humidity can also cause leaf drop and black leaves, and on top of that, you must never let it lack water. Maintain good air humidity, and if the humidity is too low, mist it every morning and evening, provided there is good ventilation.
You must prune this one back hard, keeping a few fresh, tender branches. Take out the roots again and check them. See if any are rotted. If there is rot, soak the roots in water mixed with mancozeb or thiophanate-methyl, then repot it in fresh soil. After planting, water it thoroughly and place it in a ventilated spot with no light or with indirect light. Mist it every morning and evening, and make sure ventilation is good. If nothing goes wrong, it will sprout new branches and start growing by autumn at the latest.
