Able to chew a messy, lazy stump into a poem and prune it into a painting. When the theme and ideas are also in harmony with degree and measure, how could it be a penjing that is not good to look at or read?

Technique is not equal to art; art, however, certainly contains the basic skills of technique, and technique is the most important element serving art. Looking at the elements of creative art, there are many, and it is who grasps how many elements and how much weight that determines the result. As the saying goes, poetry and fu have rules: where it should be level tone, it is not oblique tone; where it should be oblique tone, it is not level tone. But how to create a good work of one pot or one style is decided by each person's comprehensive elements and thoughts. Whatever kind of thought one has will inevitably produce a corresponding result. Li Bai loved wine, was not drunk after a thousand cups, and wrote with exaggeration and boldness. Du Fu worried for the people, and wrote with pessimistic realism that cuts to the bone. Li Qingzhao was full of feeling, and wrote romantically, seeing the warmth and coldness of the world while leaning at the door and looking back. And so on. Even for famous modern college entrance exam essay topics, a thousand people write a thousand essays. Even essays that all receive full marks differ in content because of the authors' thoughts. But in the final analysis, one point is the same: no matter how the characters are arranged and combined, no matter how it is written, the central idea never departs from the topic. It serves the theme and ideas of the work in one's own heart.

The purpose of using any technique is to create the scene in one's own heart, that is, to express one's own thoughts. If one creates technique for the sake of technique, and creates a work with no theme or ideas, one does not know what one is reading? How then can others understand it? Therefore, as a penjing creator, one can only think about each thing for oneself, feel and awaken for oneself, not be pleased by external things, not be saddened by personal circumstances. Gather the strengths of the many, select and ponder them, absorb what suits one's own use, and persist without giving up; given time, one will surely achieve something.
