Can Phalaenopsis orchids be grown hydroponically? Hydroponic methods and care tips
I. Reasons
Phalaenopsis is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows in high-temperature, high-humidity tropical rainforest regions. It is an epiphyte with aerial roots, and its roots are not afraid of water, so it can also grow in water. Orchid roots have a symbiotic orchid fungus, and when growing hydroponically you must prevent inorganic fertilizers from killing the orchid fungus.
II. Hydroponic methods
1. Clean the roots: Remove both the rotten roots and old roots from the root system, then you may also soak them in an insecticidal and sterilizing agent, and then place the plant in a cool, shaded place to dry.
2. Choose a container: Choose a transparent glass or plastic container. A transparent container makes it easy to observe the growth of the roots and is also more attractive.
3. Secure the plant: Insert the dried plant into the container. If the plant cannot be secured, you can find wire of appropriate thickness and bend it into a ring, wrap it around both the roots and the stem, and then hang it on the rim of the container.
4. Misting care: After securing the plant, be careful to keep water from touching the roots as much as possible, and mist an appropriate amount according to the air humidity. When planting, you can add some organic nutrient solution or add a small amount of sugar water.
