What is the difference between climbing roses and Rosa multiflora? A quick guide to telling them apart

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Climbing roses bear solitary flowers, with large blooms in a rich range of colors. Rosa multiflora has smaller flowers and shorter pedicels, creating a scene of blooms crowding open along the branches. Their main difference lies in the flowering period: Rosa multiflora blooms in spring and summer, while roses bloom all year round; in addition, rose flowers are larger and open singly, whereas the latter are small and open in clusters.

I. Climbing roses

They are climbing shrubs of the Rosaceae family, and their flowers are mostly solitary, with a flower diameter of 5.5-13.0 cm and a rich range of colors including red, pink, yellow, and white. They have no climbing organs of their own, so they need artificial supports such as trellises to cling to, and are trained upward by tying and other methods.

II. Rosa multiflora

It is a deciduous small shrub of the Rosaceae family, with many flowers forming conical flower clusters, pedicels 1.5-2.5 cm long, and flowers 1.5-2.0 cm in diameter. Its flowers come in many colors.

III. Main differences

1. Different flowering periods: Rosa multiflora flowers mostly open in spring and summer, while climbing roses can bloom in multiple seasons, and in most parts of China they bloom in three seasons.

2. Flower form: rose flowers are larger and mostly open singly, with rich colors and diverse forms; while Rosa multiflora mostly has small flowers growing in clusters, opening crowded along the branches, which is quite spectacular.
