Reasons and Solutions for Blackened, Withered Centers on Anthurium Leaves
1. Stop watering
(1) Specific cause: The most likely cause is overwatering, which leads to waterlogging. After waterlogging, the roots rot, and the center of the leaves may also turn black. Check whether the soil shows signs of waterlogging; if it does, that is the cause.
(2) Solution: First stop watering. Place the plant in a ventilated spot so the water can evaporate. After that, when watering, simply water thoroughly.
2. Stop fertilizing
(1) Specific cause: Fertilizer that is too concentrated or applied in too large an amount can cause fertilizer burn, making the leaves blacken and wither.
(2) Solution: As with the previous case, first stop fertilizing. After that, when fertilizing, pay attention to the amount and concentration.
3. Place in a ventilated spot
(1) Specific cause: Just after repotting, the plant must go through an adaptation process; if it does not adapt, this condition may also appear.
(2) Solution: Place it in a well-ventilated spot with not too strong light, and wait for the plant to adapt.
4. Prevent and control pests and diseases
(1) Specific cause: Some pests and diseases can also cause leaves to blacken and wither. For example, leaf spot, etc.
(2) Solution: Carry out prevention and control according to the specific disease or pest.
5. Provide appropriate shade
(1) Specific cause: Anthuriums should not be exposed to direct, overly intense light, otherwise they are easily scorched, withering and blackening.
(2) Solution: In severe cases, cut off the leaves; if the affected area is small, apply some liquid medicine. After that, provide appropriate shade, or provide diffused light.
