How to save an aloe with root rot? Learn the correct way to handle it

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Aloe root rot has two main causes: one is overwatering, and the other is bacteria. When this happens, the first step is to cut off the rotten parts; if the symptoms are not very serious, then not pruning is also fine. After that, disinfect and let them dry, then replant into a pot, cover with plastic film, and in about half a month they will take root.

1. Main causes

(1) Overwatering: Aloe is afraid of waterlogging. If you water too much at once, or too frequently, it can easily lead to root rot.

(2) Caused by bacteria: If your watering method is fairly scientific, then you can consider whether the roots have bacteria. If this is the cause, then disinfection is a must when handling it.

2. How to handle it

(1) First, take the plant out of the pot, then remove the soil around the roots. Use a sharp knife to cut away the rotten parts. Cut all the way to healthy stem tissue, and be sure to cut thoroughly, do not leave any rotten part behind, otherwise it will easily continue to rot and the affected area will become larger. After pruning, apply some plant ash to disinfect. Once the wound has dried, replant it into the pot. You can appropriately apply rooting hormone to speed up rooting. Cover with plastic film, and after about half a month, new roots will grow.

(2) If you observe that the root rot is not particularly serious, then you can skip pruning and just let it dry. However, in general it is still recommended to prune a little. Otherwise, it can easily lead to the rotten part expanding, and if you need to deal with it again it will be difficult.

(3) In addition, it is best to also remove the four or five lower leaves to reduce evaporation.

(4) Place the plant in a semi-shaded spot with good ventilation to speed up wound healing. Note that during this period you should water less.
