What to Do About Root Rot in Peace Lilies? Causes and Remedies Explained

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
There are many causes of root rot in peace lilies. If it is caused by improper watering, the watering method needs to be improved; if it is caused by improper fertilizing, the fertilizing method needs to be improved; if it is caused by temperatures being too low, the temperature needs to be raised. If the root rot is fairly severe, you need to take the plant out of its pot, trim off the rotten roots, and place it in river sand, plain soil, or water to grow new roots.

1. Water reasonably

Cause: Whether the soil stays dry for too long or waterlogged for too long, both will damage the roots of the peace lily and cause them to rot.

Solution: Improve your watering method. Do not water too much, and do not go a long time without watering.

2. Fertilize reasonably

Cause: Applying too much fertilizer, or applying raw fertilizer, burns the roots and can also trigger root rot.

Solution: Improve your fertilizing method. Use fully decomposed fertilizer, and apply light doses frequently.

3. Raise the temperature

Cause: Low temperatures can cause cold damage to the roots in the soil, which also leads to root rot.

Solution: Increase the temperature appropriately.

4. Severe root rot

If the peace lily's roots have rotted fairly severely, you need to take it out of the flowerpot and remove the original soil. Then use sterilized tools to trim away all the rotten roots, and place it in river sand, plain soil, or water to grow new roots. Once new roots have grown, replant it.
