Why Are Pothos Leaves Turning Yellow? Causes and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
The causes of yellowing pothos leaves include improper watering, unsuitable temperature, and improper lighting. If overwatered, you need to control the water promptly and return to normal watering; if the temperature is unsuitable, you need to maintain the temperature, which must not drop below 10°C; if there is not enough light, you need to place it in a spot with bright, indirect light to prevent harsh light from scorching the leaves.

1. Improper watering

Cause: Overwatering causes water to accumulate in the potting soil, hindering root respiration and possibly leading to root rot; if the plant lacks water, its edges will dry out and turn yellow, and old leaves will drop off.

Solution: If overwatered, promptly raise the plant up and place it in a ventilated spot, and once the soil has dried out completely, just resume normal care; if the plant lacks water, water it promptly, once every 2-3 days.

2. Unsuitable temperature

Cause: Its optimal temperature is 20-28°C, and for overwintering in winter it must stay at least above 10°C, and the temperature must not be too low.

Solution: Keep the growing temperature within the optimal range, and do not let the indoor temperature fall below 10°C, otherwise the plant will stop growing.

3. Improper lighting

Cause: Keeping it in a shaded spot all the time will cause the plant to lack nutrients and its leaves to shrivel; while in an environment with light that is too strong, the leaves will be scorched and turn yellow.

Solution: Provide some shade during the blazing midday sun; do not keep it in a shaded indoor spot for long periods, and regularly expose it to light in a bright spot such as a balcony.
