What important roles does sow colostrum play for piglets?

The role of sow colostrum for piglets
The milk secreted by a sow within 3 days after farrowing is called colostrum, and the milk secreted afterward is called normal milk. The composition of colostrum and normal milk is different. First, colostrum is rich in immunoglobulins, which can enhance piglets' immunity to diseases; colostrum is relatively high in acidity and contains more magnesium salts (which have a laxative effect), which can promote the excretion of meconium. The glycogen and fat reserves of newborn piglets are exhausted within 24 hours. The lactose and fat in colostrum provide energy for piglets and improve their ability to resist cold. Therefore, piglets should receive and consume enough colostrum as early as possible after birth, no later than 2 hours after birth.
