Methods for Fattening Feeder Pigs and Key Points of Feeding Technology

Feeder pigs enter the fattening stage once their body weight exceeds 60 kg. At the beginning of the fattening period, the diet should be based mainly on green and coarse feed, with an increase in feed rich in carbohydrates, such as corn, wheat bran, and distillers' grains. In the late fattening stage, because more fat has already been deposited in the body and the gastrointestinal capacity is small, feed intake decreases. To improve appetite, the amount of concentrate feed should be increased and the proportion of green and coarse feed in the diet reduced; at the same time, the number of feedings should be appropriately increased and sufficient drinking water supplied, so as to promote fat deposition.
