Timely first feeding is important in free-range chicken farming
Free-range chicken farming requires timely first feeding
Free-range chicken farming requires timely first feeding. Giving chicks their first feed is called first feeding. The timing of first feeding should be appropriately delayed, preferably 24 to 36 hours after the chicks hatch, and can also be determined based on their health condition; generally, it is best when 85% of the chicks have an appetite. If first feeding is too early, it easily causes poor yolk absorption in chicks, resulting in stunted chickens, a low brooding rate and poor uniformity. For first feeding, it is best to choose a compound feed with small particles that is easy to digest. The feed should be scattered on nylon cloth or shallow woven trays so that the chicks can easily eat it, and the method of feeding little but often should be adopted as much as possible to stimulate the chicks' appetite and reduce feed waste.
