Reasons why egg breakage worsens during high-temperature seasons
The physiological characteristics of chickens determine that the ideal environmental temperature for laying hens is 18 to 23°C, within which production performance is optimal. When the temperature exceeds 30°C, laying hens reduce feed intake, increase water intake, their droppings become loose, egg production decreases, eggs become smaller and shells become thinner, the albumen becomes thinner, and soft-shelled eggs are laid. Broken eggs increase. When the house temperature exceeds 32°C, egg production drops markedly, and in severe cases it can cause heat stress, open-mouth breathing, refusal to eat, and death from rising body temperature. To keep laying hens highly productive during high-temperature seasons and reduce egg breakage, the environmental temperature must be well controlled.
