Lighting requirements for broiler breeder chickens during the laying period
Starting from 22 weeks of age, broiler breeder chickens are generally given continuous lighting of 14 to 16 hours, but it must not exceed 17 hours, otherwise it will have an adverse effect on egg production. The increase in lighting should be gradual, increasing by 20 to 30 minutes each time, until the lighting reaches 16 hours, which is exactly at the peak of egg production. After that, maintain 16 hours of lighting, and when approaching culling (59 weeks of age), it can be increased to 17 hours. It should be noted here that the lighting time must not be increased by a large margin, otherwise it can easily cause prolapse of the oviduct in laying hens. The light intensity is best at 10 to 20 lux.
