What are the advantages of the mixed floor method for raising meat-type breeding chickens and of restricted feeding for growing chickens?
Advantages of mixed floor: breeding chickens mostly mate on the litter, which is more natural; sometimes grain is also scattered to let the chickens scratch for it, promoting their movement and mating. Feed troughs and self-flow waterers (troughs) are evenly placed on the floor of both sides' wooden boards or other slatted structures; the chickens do most of their daily defecation while feeding, and the droppings fall below the slats. The fertilization rate with this method is higher than with fully slatted floors, and the stocking density is slightly lower, at 4.3 birds per sq m.
What are the advantages of restricted feeding for growing chickens: because of restricted feeding, the chickens feel hunger, and when feed is given the whole flock competes to eat, which triggers movement in the flock and is very beneficial to the development of the bones and internal organs. Restricted feeding can bring the flock to sexual maturity at the most appropriate time and in sync with physical maturity, allowing the bones and various internal organs to develop fully during the young and growing stages.
