How to prevent and treat duck streptococcosis? A full breakdown of practical prevention and treatment measures
Prevention and treatment measures for duck streptococcosis
Symptoms: Affected ducklings eat little or not at all, tuck their necks, close their eyes, are unwilling to move, and lie on the ground unable to stand. When forced to move, they walk unsteadily or step with their legs crossed, fall down after a few steps, and cannot easily right themselves after falling. They pass grayish-white or green watery droppings, and often die 1 to 2 days after onset due to severe dehydration and septicemia.
Lesions: In young ducklings, yolk absorption is poor, and the navel area is inflamed and swollen. An enlarged liver is a prominent feature, with large numbers of small hemorrhagic spots scattered beneath the liver capsule. Diffuse pinpoint hemorrhages are visible in the coronary fat of the heart and the pancreas. The spleen is enlarged and purple-black, and the intestines show catarrhal inflammation or hemorrhage. Adult ducks often present with peritonitis.
Prevention and treatment measures:
Strengthen feeding management, environmental hygiene, and routine disinfection work.
Treatment:
(1) Penicillin: 50,000 units per kg of body weight by intramuscular injection, twice a day, for 2-3 consecutive days;
(2) Compound sulfamethoxazole: mix 0.04% into the feed and feed for 3-4 days:
(3) Norfloxacin: add 200 g of norfloxacin to 1,000 kg of feed and feed for 3-4 days.
