Pineapple Varieties and Their Practical Production Techniques
    1. Excellent Varieties

    (1) Australian Cayenne

Plant height 90-120 cm, leaves relatively wide and thick, 2-8 slip buds, few suckers (0-4), late sprouting. Flower bud emergence period is February. Flowering period is late March to early April. Fruit is elongated cylindrical, average fruit weight 2 kg, maximum fruit weight 2.8 kg, rind orange-yellow, fruitlets large, bracts relatively flat, fruit eyes shallow. Flesh yellow, juice abundant, fiber low, flesh soft, soluble solids content 12.3%-14.5%, an excellent variety for fresh eating and processing. The main crop fruit ripening period is July-August, belonging to a late-maturing variety.

    (2) Yuecui Pineapple

The plant is relatively tall and large, plant height 87-102 cm, each plant has 1-2 suckers, in the Guangzhou area the flower bud emergence period is late March to early April, flowering period is late April to early May, single fruit weight about 1.5 kg, maximum up to 3.5 kg, flesh yellow, both flesh and core are crisp, fiber low, aroma strong, eating quality relatively good, soluble solids content 15.2%, fresh fruit quality superior to the Bali variety, processing characteristics superior to the Cayenne variety, ripening period mid-to-late August, about 30 days later than the Bali variety, and 7-10 days later than the Cayenne variety.

    2. Key Points of Cultivation Techniques

    (1) Select qualified, pest-free and disease-free high-quality seedlings for planting, plant robust seedlings with a plant height of 30 cm or more.

    (2) Reasonable close planting, generally 2500-3000 plants per mu, with a plant-to-row spacing of 0.35 m x 0.40 m at planting.

    (3) Carry out cultivation management according to pineapple cultivation standards.

    (4) Use flower period regulation techniques to achieve year-round supply. When the number of green leaves on the 50 cm long plant reaches more than 40, flower forcing can be carried out, generally from August to October. For Yuecui, use ethephon 800-fold solution, pour 50 ml into the heart of each plant; for Australian Cayenne, use ethephon 500-fold solution plus 1% urea, pour 50 ml into the heart of each plant, and after 7 days carry out flower forcing once more in the same way.

    (5) Use shoot tip tissue culture for rapid propagation of seedlings to accelerate the speed and quality of seedling propagation.
