Research on the use of rice straw as rabbit feed (everyone discuss and share opinions)
Developing rice straw as rabbit feed can not only reduce environmental pollution caused by burning it, but also convert it into meat products, bringing greater benefits to humanity.
Friends, do not be stingy with your treasured knowledge and writing; publish your good research results and ideas. This is not only for yourself, but for others as well, and it can contribute to the development of the rabbit industry and benefit society.
Has any friend used rice straw as rabbit feed, and how were the results? Looking forward to your opinions.
--------------------------------------
May I ask how the results were when you used rice straw?
--------------------------------------
I have not experimented with it myself, so I am seeking everyone's opinions.
--------------------------------------
Some sources indicate it can be added at 10-15%.
--------------------------------------
Fermented rice straw and unfermented rice straw differ in nutritional composition. What amount is best to add, and how can the deep processing of rice straw into feed be achieved and done well?
--------------------------------------
The results were extremely poor; the rabbits barely ate it.
--------------------------------------
Feed (type) Mixing ratio (%) Main nutrient content
Rice straw meal 40 Digestible energy (MJ/kg) 10.4
Wheat bran 15 Crude protein (%) 16.0
Barley meal 23 Crude fiber 14.0
Soybean cake 20 Sulfur-containing amino acids (g) 0.8
Bone meal 1.2 Calcium (g) 0.6
Salt 0.5 Phosphorus (g) 0.4
Methionine 0.3
--------------------------------------
When it comes to feed, what matters is nutrition: there are effective components and ineffective components. The quality of rice straw meal is too poor, and its digestible nutrients are too low. If 40 is added, the amount is too large and will affect the absorption and utilization of other nutrients. Therefore, the amount is too large.

Personally, I feel that the amount of rice straw added in this formula is indeed too high.
The results for fattening rabbits should not be very good, and excessive fiber also causes poor absorption of other nutrients such as methionine and soybean meal.

Suggestions:
1. Control the appropriate usage ratio to prevent the fiber content from being too low, below 10%, and increase it gradually, with a sufficient adaptation period.
2. Ammoniation treatment can be carried out appropriately to improve utilization.

Based on my experience... rice straw is not as convenient as sawdust (wood shavings from timber processing plants)...
--------------------------------------
The crude fiber content is too high. I think the added amount should not be too large, as it will seriously affect the palatability of the feed.

Apart from serving as a filler ingredient, rice straw basically has no nutritional value for domestic rabbits.
