Rabbit Staphylococcosis
Staphylococcosis [Characteristics]
This disease is caused by Staphylococcus aureus and often appears in different forms of onset, such as mastitis, yellow urine disease in young rabbits, and foot dermatitis. It has no seasonality, and rabbits of all ages are susceptible.
[Symptoms and Necropsy Lesions]
Depending on the site of infection and the spread of the pathogen in the body, it often presents as the following types:
1. Abscess: Primary abscesses are often located under the skin or in a certain organ, and later can cause pyosepticemia.

2. Mastitis: More commonly seen in the first few days after a doe gives birth. The mammary glands are swollen and red, even purplish red, and the milk contains pus, curds, or blood, etc.

3. Pyosepticemia in young rabbits: Occurs in young rabbits 2-6 days after birth, with millet-sized white pustules of varying sizes appearing on the skin or under the skin. The pus is milky white and creamy. Most die within 2-5 days in the form of septicemia, and most have many small white pustules on the heart and lungs.
4. Acute enteritis in young rabbits (yellow urine disease): Caused by young rabbits ingesting milk containing staphylococci. It generally occurs in the whole litter. The hair around the anus and on the hind limbs of the young rabbits is damp and foul-smelling, and the young rabbits are lethargic and their whole bodies are weak. The bladder is distended and filled with pale yellow urine. If the disease occurs, the whole litter often dies, causing serious losses.
Foot dermatitis: The skin under the soles of the rabbit's feet becomes congested, swollen, and loses hair, then suppurates, ulcerates, and forms ulcers that do not heal for a long time and bleed easily.
Prevention: Do a good job of disinfecting the surrounding environment, prevent skin injuries, and regularly use Shen's Rabbit Staphylococcosis Propolis Inactivated Vaccine for immunization. Subcutaneous injection of 2 ml, once every three months.
Treatment: Sick rabbits can be treated with Shen's Lühuan Shaxing. Intramuscular injection, 0.15 ml/kg body weight, twice daily, for 3 consecutive days.
