What disinfectants are commonly used in pig farms? A detailed explanation of the correct mixing ratios
I don't really know! I'm asking the experts to enlighten me!
What disinfectants are usually needed for special wild boars?
Which ones are better? Thanks in advance!
Use of common disinfectants in pig farms:
a. Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda, lye, caustic soda): It has strong sterilizing power against bacteria and viruses, and also kills bacterial spores and parasite eggs. It is often made into a 2-3% solution for disinfecting entrances and exits, transport vehicles, empty pens, feed troughs, etc. It is highly corrosive, so be careful when using it and do not splash it on workers, especially their eyes and hands.
b. Quicklime: Its main component is calcium oxide, which forms calcium hydroxide when it meets water and thus has a disinfecting effect. Its disinfecting effect is not strong; it is only effective against most vegetative bacteria and ineffective against spores. When using it, first mix quicklime and water at a 1:1 ratio to make slaked lime, then dilute it with water into a 10-20% suspension for disinfection. Lime milk should be prepared just before use.
c. Peracetic acid: Peracetic acid is a strong oxidant and kills bacteria, viruses, molds and spores, with fast and strong action. A 0.3-0.5% solution is commonly used to disinfect floors and walls, and it can also be used for fumigation disinfection of empty pens. Generally, 1-3 grams per cubic meter is diluted into a 3-5% solution and heated for fumigation (indoor relative temperature 60-80%), with doors and windows closed for 1-2 hours. Peracetic acid is corrosive to the skin and mucous membranes, and at high concentrations heating to 60°C can cause an explosion, so be careful when using it. Peracetic acid is very unstable, and the prepared solution can only be stored for a few days, so it is best prepared and used immediately. Commercially available products are 20% and 40% solutions, with a shelf life of six months.
d. Formalin (40% formaldehyde): Formalin is a powerful broad-spectrum disinfectant that can rapidly kill bacteria, viruses, spores and molds. Formalin is widely used in practice for fumigation disinfection of empty pig houses, that is, 15-30 milliliters per cubic meter of space plus an equal amount of water is heated to evaporate, or potassium permanganate is added (the ratio of potassium permanganate to formalin is 3:5) for oxidative evaporation; a 2-4% formalin solution can also be used to disinfect floors, walls and utensils. Because fumigation requires relatively high temperature and humidity, water should be sprayed to increase humidity before fumigation.
e. Jundumie: Jundumie is a new type of broad-spectrum, high-efficiency compound phenolic disinfectant produced in China. Within the effective dilution concentration, it is non-toxic and harmless to humans and animals. It is mainly used for disinfection of environments with pigs present. The commonly used preventive disinfection concentration is 0.3-0.5%, and the disinfection concentration for sites contaminated by pathogens is 1%. When using it, note that sprayers used for pesticides must strictly not be used, and it must strictly not be mixed with alkaline drugs or other disinfectant liquids, so as to avoid reducing the disinfection effect or causing accidents.
f. Baidusha: Baidusha is a double-chain amine salt disinfectant that is safe, efficient, non-corrosive and non-irritating, and its disinfecting power can last 10-14 days. It is commonly used for disinfecting pig pens, environments, utensils, etc. (concentration 0.01-0.03%) and for drinking water disinfection (0.005-0.01%).
