Use Antibiotics with Caution for Piglet Diarrhea in Autumn and Winter
In autumn and winter, diarrhea in piglets is a common disease, often caused by infection with rotavirus and other pathogens. In the early stage of onset, it presents as mild respiratory infection symptoms such as fever, coughing, and runny nose, followed by vomiting and diarrhea, and in severe cases, symptoms such as dehydration, heart failure, and acidosis. Antibiotics are only suitable for diarrhea caused by bacterial infection and are ineffective against viral diarrhea. Therefore, after piglets develop diarrhea, antibiotics should not be used indiscriminately for treatment. The following methods have relatively good therapeutic effects.

After piglets develop diarrhea, use interferon inducers such as nucleopeptides to promote the body's accelerated production of antibodies against the virus and enhance physical constitution.

For mildly to moderately dehydrated piglets with diarrhea, glucose saline should be given orally in small amounts and multiple times, 20 to 30 milliliters per piglet each time.

For piglets with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, severe dehydration, heart failure, and acidosis, use 2 to 4 milliliters of Aimor or vitamin B6 per piglet to stop vomiting; to stop diarrhea, use 10 to 15 milliliters of banlangen, 10 to 15 milliliters of Changlining, and 10 to 20 milliliters of vitamin C, injected intramuscularly once, twice a day, for 3 to 5 consecutive days. For heart failure, use 4 to 5 milliliters of 10% sodium caffeine benzoate injected intramuscularly once. For severe dehydration accompanied by acidosis, use 30 to 50 milliliters of 5% sodium bicarbonate solution plus 500 milliliters of glucose sodium chloride solution for intravenous injection until symptoms disappear.

During treatment, fasting is generally not required. Even if the piglets have acute diarrhea, the gastrointestinal tract can still absorb a certain amount of nutrients. When diarrhea is accompanied by vomiting, fasting should be considered.
