What to do when replacement gilts do not come into heat? Practical methods to promote estrus
How to encourage replacement gilts to come into heat
Replacement gilts are usually kept in small pens in groups (4 to 8 per pen), and from 5.5 months of age they begin fence-line contact with boars. Gilts should be exercised regularly, and they should be moved between pens and the boars in adjacent pens rotated (preferably once a week). It is best to use high-quality feed (rich in vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D, choline, and necessary trace elements and amino acids, etc.), with short-term supplementary feeding, combined with changing the feed to stimulate estrus.
