How do you prevent and control orchid pests and diseases?
Because orchid roots are fleshy, prefer air and fear waterlogging, they are relatively prone to root rot and gradual loss of transport function, which lowers their resistance to pests and diseases. Also, because the leaf sheaths of cultivated orchids tightly wrap the leaf bases and the leaves overlap one another, pesticides can hardly reach the target, making control difficult. Therefore, the following four aspects of work must be done well:

① Strictly control disinfection: seed seedlings, substrate, pots and tools, and the site must all be disinfected with a 600-800 times dilution of sterilizing and insecticidal agents.

② Pay attention to ventilation and light transmission, and cultivate with less nitrogen and more phosphorus and potassium to improve the stress resistance of the plant.

③ Spray once each season with a 1500 times dilution of the medical antipyretic and analgesic aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) to induce the plant to produce resistance proteins, so as to block, kill and inhibit the invasion of pathogens.

④ Apply pesticide for root establishment control. The residual effect period of general pesticides is mostly 7-10 days. For this reason, pesticide must be applied 3-4 times each month. Pesticide varieties must be alternated, medium concentration should be chosen, and spraying must be comprehensive and thorough. Leaf surfaces, leaf backs, pot surfaces, under the orchid racks and the pathways, and the environment must all be fully sprayed.
