How should a home-grown white magnolia (Michelia alba) be tied up to reduce its volume?
The umbrella-folding method can be used. First gather the branches on the upper part of the white magnolia plant and tie them into a bundle with string; then gather the middle branches upward, attach them to the already-gathered upper bundle of branches, and tie them securely; finally gather the lower branches upward, attach them to the middle branches, and tie them securely. In this way it is like a closed umbrella, and the volume of space occupied by its branches is generally only 1/5 of the original volume. However, note that when gathering and tying the branches, you must not use brute force, to prevent breaking the branches.
