Kalanchoe blooms in full pots even during the dog days of summer; a 10-year horticulturist propagates 10 pots a year

Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana) is a very popular flowering plant. It comes in a wide range of varieties with extremely vivid, dazzling colors. The plant is short and compact, takes up little space, and is highly ornamental, making it an excellent choice for balcony pots and gifts.
For caring for kalanchoe, a 10-year horticulturist teaches you how to grow it, and you can propagate 10 pots a year, and it will still bloom in full pots during the dog days of summer. Let's take a look together!
During the dog days of summer, temperatures are basically above 30°C, extremely hot and humid. Kalanchoe cannot adapt to such a high-temperature, high-humidity environment, and it easily enters a semi-dormant period. Once dormant, it will no longer bloom.
So, if you want kalanchoe to keep blooming, you must prevent it from entering dormancy. From which aspects should you master this?
Kalanchoe is a succulent herbaceous plant, so in summer you need to pay attention to strengthening ventilation, providing enough light, and also protecting it from sun and lowering the temperature.
Strengthen ventilation
If you previously placed the kalanchoe on a south-facing balcony, move it to a north-facing window when the hot summer arrives. If the room has through ventilation from south to north, open the windows so a gentle breeze blows through, which is more suitable for kalanchoe growth. If ventilation at home is poor, you can also use a small electric fan pointed at the kalanchoe to achieve the effect of ventilation.
Enough light
Although the temperature is too high and the sunlight is relatively strong, you still need to give the kalanchoe enough light. Only with light can it carry out photosynthesis, synthesize chlorophyll to make the leaves greener, and promote flower bud differentiation to achieve blooming. You can place the kalanchoe on a south-facing balcony before 10 a.m., and after 10 a.m., place it at a north-facing window.
Sun protection plus cooling
Placing it at a north-facing window can prevent direct strong light. You can spray water on the kalanchoe leaves, or sprinkle water on the ground around it, which can make the temperature drop quickly and play a cooling role.
By caring for kalanchoe through these aspects, you can keep it blooming. Moreover, during the dog days of summer, pay attention to pruning the kalanchoe. The leaves you prune off can be used for cuttings propagation.
For the substrate, you can use peat soil plus perlite, or peat soil plus river sand to mix it.
Place the cut kalanchoe leaves overnight. After the cut ends are fully dried, insert them into the substrate.
Propagating with leaves takes a relatively long time to root, so you need to wait patiently, about 3 to 6 months. Once roots form, leaves will grow quickly. You can propagate more than 10 pots at a time!
