Kalanchoe, because its name carries an auspicious meaning and symbolizes health and longevity, and because its flowers are bright and beautiful, is loved by many people. It is a perennial succulent herb, but some friends find that the kalanchoe they grow never blooms or blooms only sparsely. Why exactly? Use these two little tips for growing kalanchoe, and it will bloom in clusters, with lush branches and leaves and plenty of flowers.

How to plant kalanchoe, and the secrets to vigorous growth and abundant blooming:

Kalanchoe can bloom continuously for several months, from February to May. If you want to extend the flowering period, water a little less, place it in diffused light or a spot without strong sunlight, and keep good ventilation.

If you want its next round of flowers to be more abundant and vigorous, you need to do two small things well. One is pruning. After the kalanchoe finishes blooming, it must be pruned hard. Most of the leaves on the branch should be cut off. This branch is a flowering stem; if it is not cut off, the plant will grow sparse and scraggly, affecting later growth.

For branches that grow too tall and too long, the leggy kalanchoe branches look unattractive and will not bloom either. Do not be reluctant to part with them, so they need to be cut off to encourage more branching and the growth of side shoots, so there will be more flowers later.

Usually you also need to prune more and prune often, so that more side buds will grow and more flowers will bloom. Kalanchoe has apical dominance; after side buds grow, when there are two or three pairs of leaves, keep one to two pairs of leaves and cut off the top part. In this way, the kalanchoe will grow more flowering branches and bloom more.

In addition, when caring for kalanchoe normally, be sure to remember that except in summer, when it should not be exposed to blazing sun, in the other seasons it needs sufficient light and sufficient nutrients. Only by providing plenty of fertilizer and water will side buds grow quickly.

Do not fertilize immediately after repotting. After the plant has settled in, fertilize once every fifteen days. A compound fertilizer or organic fertilizer is fine. When there are flower buds, spray some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. The kalanchoe's leaves will grow thick, shiny, and large, and it will bloom very easily.

Kalanchoe flowers are especially beautiful and very easy to care for. A single branch or leaf can be propagated by cuttings and survive. Especially when cuttings are taken after flowering, the survival rate is very high.

Take the pruned branches and insert them into vermiculite, sand, or nutrient soil, keep them moist and shaded, and place them in a ventilated spot with diffused light. In just over ten days, new leaves will grow.

Then you can water and sun them normally, and they will grow very quickly.
