What are the nutritional components of palm kernel meal?
Nutritional components of palm kernel meal?
May I ask about the nutritional components of palm kernel meal and its dosage in dairy cattle feed? What are its characteristics and shortcomings?
--------------------------------------
We just received a sample of palm kernel meal, with protein above 16, fiber below 8, and fat above 6.
I just don't know whether it has any toxicity.
--------------------------------------
A fiber value of 8 probably means there is moisture.
--------------------------------------
Protein around 12.13, fiber at 20, fat 8.
--------------------------------------
Palm kernel meal specifications: crude protein: greater than 15.00%, crude fat: greater than 7.0%, crude fiber: less than 18.0%, moisture: less than 10.0%.
Sampling and analysis of nutritional components by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences are as follows: crude protein 16.20%, methionine 0.312%, crude fat 11.13%, lysine 0.528%, crude fiber 17.90%, threonine 0.526%, moisture 9.80%, cystine 0.228%, crude ash 4.68%, valine 0.84%; calcium 0.15%, histidine 0.264%, phosphorus 0.41%, arginine 2.064%, gross energy 17.15 MJ/kg, tryptophan 0.12%, nitrogen-free extract 64.8%, phenylalanine 0.624%.
Recommended inclusion ratios (replacing corn at 1:1) are as follows: laying hens: 3%-7%, broilers: 1%-5%, pigs: 3%-9%, ducks: 3%-7%, ruminants: 15%-30%.
--------------------------------------
Palm kernel meal is a non-GMO product, purely natural, pollution-free, with no toxic chemical substances and no aflatoxin. Its low moisture content effectively prevents the growth of microorganisms and mold; its low unsaturated fatty acid content solves the problem of feed spoilage; its very low starch and sugar content will not cause acidosis, and there are rarely health problems in livestock caused by this feed. This product is particularly suitable for feeding ruminants and is widely used in dairy cattle feed in New Zealand; the crude fiber that can be digested and absorbed can effectively increase the milk fat percentage of dairy cows and enhance the cattle's constitution. Maximum feeding amount: dairy cattle - 25%, beef cattle 30%. My profile picture shows palm kernel meal being loaded onto a ship bound for New Zealand.

Palm kernel meal is a by-product after dehulling and oil extraction of palm kernels. Its shape and color are similar to rapeseed meal, and its odor has a slight chocolate smell. Depending on the degree of dehulling and the processing technology, the quality of palm kernel meal varies greatly (similar to the cottonseed meal process). For recently imported Indonesian palm kernel meal, sampling and testing by the Feed Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences showed some of its nutritional components as follows: crude protein 16.20%, methionine 0.312%, crude fat 11.13%, lysine 0.528%, crude fiber 18.90%, threonine 0.526%, moisture 9.80%, cystine 0.228%, crude ash 4.68%, valine 0.84%; calcium 0.15%, histidine 0.264%, phosphorus 0.41%, arginine 2.064%, gross energy 17.15 MJ/kg, tryptophan 0.12%, nitrogen-free extract 64.8%, phenylalanine 0.624%.
Nutritional specifications of imported palm kernel meal: crude protein: greater than 15.00%, crude fiber: less than 18.0%, oil: less than 7.0%, moisture: less than 10.0%. Usage of palm kernel meal and comparison of advantages and disadvantages: Because of its relatively high crude fat content, palm kernel meal can be classified as an energy feed in specific use. It can replace part of the corn or wheat bran at a 1:1 ratio. When substituting, the amino acid composition can also be considered comprehensively together with protein feed. Palm kernel meal was previously mainly supplied to major corn sales regions such as South Korea, Japan and Eastern Europe, but with the large-scale expansion of palm tree planting in Indonesia and Malaysia, the output of palm kernel meal has exceeded the feed usage in that region, resulting in a surplus, and the price has gradually declined.
Using palm kernel meal to replace part of the corn has the most direct effect: feeding results remain unchanged, but feed costs are greatly reduced, and the competitiveness of livestock products among peers is significantly improved. At present, it is nearly 400 yuan cheaper per ton than corn. As corn prices in northern China and North China have risen too sharply and livestock product prices have remained sluggish for a long time, some large and medium-sized feed enterprises must do everything possible to reduce costs in order to survive. Therefore, under the current situation, using palm kernel meal to replace part of the corn has become the first-choice product.
Palm kernel meal is low in price, free from mold and side effects. Its disadvantages are that for monogastric animals, the utilization rates of energy and crude protein are relatively low, and there are also no detailed conversion indicators for reference. In addition, because of its relatively high crude fiber content, its palatability is poor, and it is not suitable for chicks and piglets. Palm kernel meal is particularly suitable for the feed of ruminants such as cattle, sheep, horses and deer, and can also be used in the feed of livestock such as pigs and chickens, but the inclusion ratio must be controlled. Recommended inclusion ratios (replacing corn at 1:1) are as follows: laying hens: 3%-7%, broilers: 1%-5%, pigs: 3%-9%, ducks: 3%-7%, ruminants: 15%-30%.
