Symptoms and Prevention and Treatment Methods of Clostridium welchii Disease in Rabbits
Clostridium welchii Disease in Rabbits
Clostridium welchii Disease
[Characteristics]
This disease is an acute digestive tract infectious disease of domestic rabbits with an extremely high mortality rate, caused by Clostridium welchii types A and E and the exotoxins they produce. Rabbits of all ages and breeds can be infected and develop the disease, with those aged 1-3 months being most susceptible.
[Symptoms and Necropsy Lesions] 1. Diarrhea, initially grayish-brown soft stool, quickly turning into dark green watery feces, with a distinctive foul fishy odor. The area around the anus and the hind limbs are contaminated with feces.
2. The carcass is dehydrated and emaciated, the abdominal cavity has a foul odor, the stomach contains food and gas, the mucosa at the fundus of the stomach sloughs off, with hemorrhagic spots and black ulcer spots of varying sizes.
3. Diffuse hemorrhage of the intestinal wall, which is thin and transparent. The mesenteric lymph nodes are congested and edematous, and the cecum and colon are filled with gas and dark green watery feces, with a foul odor.
4. The epicardial blood vessels are engorged, appearing dendritic. The liver and kidneys are congested, degenerated, and brittle. The bladder often contains tea-colored or dark blue urine.
[Prevention and Treatment Measures]
Prevention: Ensure sufficient crude fiber in the daily ration, change feed gradually, reduce the occurrence of various stresses, and regularly vaccinate with Shen's Rabbit Plague, Pasteurella and Clostridium welchii Triple Propolis Inactivated Vaccine. Shen's Luchangkang can also be used in drinking water (100 ml diluted in 100 kg of water).
Treatment:
1. When the disease occurs, emergency immunization should be carried out for the entire rabbit herd using Shen's Rabbit Plague, Pasteurella and Clostridium welchii Triple Propolis Inactivated Vaccine or Clostridium welchii Single Vaccine.
2. For drug treatment, antibiotics such as erythromycin and kanamycin can be used. If combined with symptomatic therapy (fluid replacement, oral administration of dried yeast, pepsin and other digestive aids), the efficacy is better.
