Don't Rush to Fertilize When Rose Leaves Turn Yellow - Reckless Fertilizing Can Be a Death Sentence

July is almost half over. When growing roses in summer, what do you fear most? Yellow leaves are one of them, right? Recently, a flower lover asked the little gardener for help, saying their rose had sent out new shoots, and the shoots were sturdy, but they were yellow. They checked the variety, and it wasn't a variety issue. So what is the problem? What should be done?
1. Yellow rose leaves - a lack of trace elements?
This is the flower lover's rose. The new leaves are a bit red, which is normal, but the leaves below are yellowing abnormally. Many rose growers say at first glance that this is a lack of trace elements and that they should fertilize right away. The little gardener thinks this may not be the reason. If it were a lack of trace elements, we could just use Huadongde rose-specific organic nutrient solution to supplement fertilizer.
2. Yellow rose leaves - one of the reasons
The little gardener asked the flower lover whether they had fertilized recently, and the flower lover said yes. Then the problem emerges: since fertilizer had just been used, the possibility of a trace element deficiency is very small. So when yellow leaves appear on roses, it is caused by the following two reasons. The first is that the fertilizer was too concentrated, and the rose's roots were burned, which led to the yellow leaves. At this point, it is best to repot in fertilizer-free soil, otherwise it cannot be saved.
3. Yellow rose leaves - the second reason
The second reason is that shade was not provided properly. Strong old plants are fine when exposed to the sun, but tender new shoots like these definitely cannot withstand the summer sun. Part of the reason for these yellow leaves is sun exposure under high temperatures. So when caring for them, we need to prepare shade netting in summer. The little gardener personally thinks that when growing roses in high-temperature areas, two layers of shade netting are needed to be safe.
4. Rose care - use "technology" to measure fertilizer and water
So when rose leaves turn yellow, don't always assume it is a problem of insufficient trace elements. How could a rose that was repotted just half a year ago lack trace elements? Improper care is the real culprit. During care, how do you judge whether the fertilizer in the rose pot is excessive? You can use a plant monitor to test it. It can also measure humidity and remind you to water.
Dear rose growers, in midsummer, if your roses also show yellow leaves like this, check whether it is the two problems above. Don't always assume it is a "trace element" problem. Blindly supplementing fertilizer at this time will only kill the rose.
