[Characteristics]
The pathogen is caused by certain serotypes of pathogenic Escherichia coli. This disease mainly affects young rabbits around 20 days of age and before and after weaning, namely those 1 to 3 months old, while adult rabbits rarely develop the disease.
[Symptoms and necropsy lesions]
1. The fecal pellets are small with pointed ends and carry gelatinous mucus; some have abdominal distension and pass black watery stool, while others are depressed, grind their teeth, stop eating, and pass feces shaped like rat droppings
2. The entire gastrointestinal tract shows catarrhal inflammation with a fairly large amount of gas; the stomach wall is obviously edematous with hemorrhagic spots; the walls of the ileum and colon are grayish-white, the mucosa shows severe mucoid catarrh, and the intestinal lumen contains a large amount of viscous, colorless gelatinous material.
In cases with a longer course, hemorrhagic spots and pale yellow mucus can be seen on the mucosa of the colon and cecum
[Prevention and control measures]
Prevention: Use Boda propolis inactivated vaccine (rabbit farms with the means should preferably use a vaccine made from E. coli isolated on their own farm) for preventive injection; young rabbits 20 to 30 days old receive 1 ml by intramuscular injection, and the nutritional balance of the rabbit feed should be adjusted; in addition, before and after weaning, young rabbits should be given Shen's Probiotic Treasure in drinking water for prevention (addition amount: 0.02% to 0.05%).
Treatment:
1. When individual cases occur, use Shen's Sukang by intramuscular injection at 0.2 ml/kg body weight, twice daily for 3 consecutive days, and at the same time add allicin to the feed; or administer Shen's Probiotic Treasure by oral drench.
2. When the whole group is affected, before and after weaning mix Shen's Zhili Powder into the feed, or use Luchangkang in drinking water.
3. For those with severe diarrhea and dehydration, use oral rehydration salts in drinking water.
