Add a little something to hydroponic lucky bamboo, and you get strong roots, green leaves, no pests, and especially fragrant flowers

Recently, a reader messaged us saying that a newly bought lucky bamboo started showing yellow leaves just a few days after being placed in its growing water, and then some of the roots began to smell rotten. A perfectly good plant just died off like that, and there was nothing wrong with the water or anything else, and no mistake in the growing method either. They asked why this happens. Today let's talk about it
Actually it's very simple, just a few easy steps will do it!
1. Rooting
Many people miss this step with newly bought hydroponic lucky bamboo. Whether you bought it wholesale or from a flower shop, if it hasn't rooted after a week, you need to pay attention, because when you bought it, you need to re-trim the roots and give the base a diagonal cut, since when it was first bought, the base had a waxy layer. Once that is trimmed off, rooting becomes much easier
2. Add nutrient solution
Hydroponic lucky bamboo has another serious problem, and that is lots of yellow leaves, because a hydroponic environment simply can't compare with soil, and the nutrients are hard to compare too. So if you want the leaves to stop turning yellow, there's a little trick! Just add a rusty iron nail, or a few drops of nutrient solution. One or two drops of nutrient solution per week is enough, don't add more,
3. Trim the roots
With hydroponic lucky bamboo and other potted plants, we think the more roots the better, with the whole vase full of roots. We feel it's healthy, but actually many people don't understand. Roots need to breathe too. When all the roots are tangled together at the bottom of the vase, the plant easily suffers from lack of oxygen, and then the color becomes dull and lusterless, and it's malnourished
When we see lots of roots tangled together, we should tidy the roots up, and it's best to trim them a bit. When trimming, we should ideally disinfect. You can trim away the excess messy roots a little, keeping 3 to 5 cm, and after cutting, soak them in disinfectant solution to disinfect and avoid infection. Pick off the yellow leaves to reduce nutrient consumption. Then, put it in a cool, ventilated place and add some purified water, because purified water has no pathogens in it, and then, in the cool, ventilated place, let it recover for about a week first.
4. Light
Hydroponic lucky bamboo is generally kept indoors. Sometimes we think they don't like light, but actually, all things grow by the sun. Lucky bamboo doesn't dislike light, it dislikes direct light. We can put it in a fairly bright place with plenty of scattered light.
If the lucky bamboo has too many leaves, we can pick some off, don't let them crowd together, otherwise the lower leaves easily turn yellow. Once lucky bamboo leaves turn yellow, it's very hard for them to turn green again, so it's best to pick off the yellow leaves to avoid spoiling its looks.
5. Hydroponic lucky bamboo,
Many of us plant lovers, after growing hydroponic plants, just casually top up the water. We're too lazy to clean the vase, and we don't wash the roots either. Actually, this easily breeds insect eggs, pests and diseases. They will develop into fungus gnats. Very hard to clean up. So we'd best change the water about once a week. As for the water, use tap water and let it sit for a day or two before using it, to reduce the chlorine in the water.
The second method, keep a small fish in it. This small fish will eat the dirty bits on the water surface. Insect eggs and all, it eats them all up, and their droppings can also serve as flower fertilizer.
With these methods, your lucky bamboo will naturally grow lush and green, never get yellow leaves, will even grow to over a meter, and bloom with fragrant, beautiful flowers
Drop a little something into your hydroponic lucky bamboo, and the roots grow thick and strong as if they'd been treated with chemicals, yellow leaves and little bugs all disappear. How well is your lucky bamboo doing? Feel free to leave a comment
