Thoughts and Reflections on the Growth Stages of Broiler Chickens
Reflections on the Growth Stages of Broiler Chickens
After so many years of genetic breeding, the production performance of broiler chickens has been greatly improved (the same is true for meat ducks), but when formulating feed, we still use the previous stage division method: chick stage: 0-21 days of age; grower stage: 21-42 days of age; finisher stage: 42 days to slaughter. Formulas designed according to this division are very likely not suitable for the actual growth needs of current broiler chickens, especially in the early stage. Should we divide it this way instead? Early stage: 0-15 days of age; middle stage: 15-40 days of age; late stage: 40 days to slaughter. Because in many places, farmers no longer use the first-stage feed until 21 days of age, but use it by amount, basically 1 jin of early-stage feed per chicken.

I think the following division is more reasonable:
0-7 days: yolk absorption, nutrient conversion period
8-28 days, first molting period, amino acid requirements can be adjusted
29 days to slaughter, rapid fattening period
--------------------------------------
As far as I know, the current stages are: 1-14, 15-35, 36 days to slaughter
--------------------------------------
I think this division is more reasonable------

May I ask Dr. Wang, if the stages are divided as you proposed, how should the nutritional standards for each stage be specifically re-determined?
--------------------------------------
The principle of the first stage: similar to the design of suckling piglet weaning feed, focusing on high energy and sufficient protein, to prevent indigestion
The second stage, provide sufficient sulfur-containing amino acids
The third stage, focus on lysine, with growth rate as the first design principle
Overall, this kind of design makes the benefits more prominent----spending the necessary cost where it matters most
--------------------------------------
I learned something, incisive!!!! Really useful
--------------------------------------
I learned something, Dr. Wang's analysis is reasonable and well-founded.
--------------------------------------
I believe Dr. Wang's stage division makes a lot of sense. 0-7 days is the combination of the chick's own nutrition and feed nutrition, and the feed should focus on high nutrition and easy digestion.
--------------------------------------
I support the view of 1-14, 15-35, 36 days to slaughter. Not only should the factors of yolk absorption and molting be considered, but the key consideration should be the speed of development of different organs and their requirements for nutrients, such as muscle, bone, fat, and so on.

What you said makes a lot of sense! Thank you!
