Is palatability really the number one factor in pig feed?

Is palatability the number one factor in pig feed?
Textbooks say: poultry eat only according to their energy needs;
Experts say: this is even more true for pigs;
Recently a technical director in the industry said: for breed pigs, palatability is the number one factor determining feed intake.
May I ask: how should we understand palatability?
--------------------------------------
This is the first time I have heard such a statement. Should nutrition not be considered?
--------------------------------------
I think so. Without palatability, no matter how good the nutrition is, it is useless.

Palatability is important, but if they will not eat it, then it never gets into their belly.

Hehe, this person is probably a bit extreme, and it smacks of overgeneralization.

Eating more can reduce a lot of trouble. Thumbs up.

There are three different viewpoints in it: chickens eat according to energy needs; pigs eat according to energy needs; palatability is the key and energy does not matter. Eating according to energy needs has always been a controversial statement. Some people believe poultry best reflects eating according to energy needs, while pigs are actually not obvious. Feed intake is affected by many factors. In my personal opinion, on the basis of improving palatability, nutrition should be well matched.

This person obviously does not consider the issue comprehensively enough. Maybe his customers in this area have returned goods to him.

I currently think so too.
It does not mean that palatability is the only determining factor of feed intake, but that it is the most important factor.

This understanding: compared with previous native-breed pigs, today's pigs have much higher requirements for palatability.
If the taste is not good, they would rather suffer from hunger, become terribly thin from hunger, or even starve to death, than eat it.
Very principled indeed.

Agreed! Thumbs up!!!!!

Palatability being the number one factor determining pig feed intake is a bit absolute. It should be an important factor. Tell me, what about sick pigs?

Palatability and nutrition are equally important
