Comprehensive supporting technologies for safe chicken production in winter

Cold prevention and heat preservation is the top priority for safe chicken production in winter. The main technical steps include: adding insulation layers to the chicken coop, adjusting the feeding amount in a timely manner, and paying attention to ventilation.
Main technical contents:
1. Add insulation layers to the chicken coop. If frost is found on the ceiling and north wall of the chicken coop, a suspended ceiling with an insulation layer should be added, and plastic sheeting or felt paper should be used to add a thermal barrier and tightly seal the north windows. A windbreak can also be set up at an appropriate place from the chicken coop in the direction of the prevailing wind to ease the impact of cold winds.
2. Adjust the feeding amount in a timely manner according to temperature. Pay attention to weather forecasts at all times. One to two days before a cold wave arrives, increase the feed for each chicken by 10-20 grams for 3-5 consecutive days to maintain body temperature and egg production levels. For every 3°C drop in temperature, about 5 grams of feed should be added. After the cold wave passes and the temperature rises again, restore the original feed amount.
3. Pay attention to ventilation. Under cold climate conditions, the relationship between ventilation and warmth must be properly handled, and manure and debris in the chicken coop should be removed in a timely manner to keep the air fresh. When the weather is better at noon, windows should be opened for ventilation so that the air in the coop is fresh and oxygen is sufficient, taking preventive measures before problems arise.
4. Preventive medication. In winter and spring, the resistance of chickens declines, so special attention must be paid to epidemic prevention and disease control. According to actual conditions, some preventive drugs can be given regularly in a targeted manner, and the content of vitamins and trace elements in the feed can be appropriately increased to strengthen the chickens' constitution.
