To add salt or not?
NutrientRequirementsOf Warmwater FishAndShellfishs (1983):
It is generally believed that sodium, potassium and chloride ions are essential for many physiological processes, including osmotic regulation, acid-base balance, hydrochloric acid secretion in the stomach, maintenance of membrane potential, and transmission of nerve impulses. However, deficiency in fish diets has not been confirmed, and the diets of the vast majority of fish contain sufficient amounts of any one of these elements.

Both seawater and freshwater are rich in and contain adequate amounts of sodium, potassium and chloride ions. Freshwater fish absorb them directly from the water through their gills, whereas marine fish obtain these minerals by drinking water. Sakamoto and Yone (1978) found that red sea bream showed no response to potassium or sodium supplementation when fed diets very low in these minerals.

Hmm, our company's fish feed has never had salt added, and no deficiency has been seen. No problem.

Murray and Yone (1979) used a practical diet containing 0.06% sodium and 0.17% chloride to feed channel catfish in water containing 10 ppm chloride and sodium respectively. Salt was added to the diet at different levels up to 2% of the diet. Although fish fed the salt-supplemented diet grew faster (6-8%) than those fed the basal diet, the effects of salt supplementation on growth, feed conversion ratio and body moisture content were not statistically significant.

Channel catfish can't have salt added, otherwise it's easy for them to lighten in color and turn pale.

Do livestock and poultry feeds need supplementation?
--------------------------------------
Definitely yes.
--------------------------------------
Yes, but you have to pay attention to the amount added.
--------------------------------------
At present, in aquatic feed, some manufacturers add salt and some do not.

Adding an appropriate amount of salt to the feed of freshwater aquaculture species is beneficial.
--------------------------------------
This is a good topic, I learned something.

In livestock and poultry feed, the addition of salt is very important. In aquatic feed, some technicians add it and some do not. Please everyone share your reasons.
