Key Technical Points for Loach Grow-Out Aquaculture
Grow-Out Aquaculture Techniques for Loach
The loach is known as the "ginseng of the water"; its flesh is delicious, tender and nutritious. It also has high value in medicine and is one of China's important aquatic products for export. Because of its strong adaptability, few diseases, high survival rate, strong reproductive capacity, easy transport and readily available feed, the loach has become an important aquaculture species.
Pond construction:
Choose a wind-sheltered, sunny site with convenient water supply, slightly alkaline bottom soil and no pesticide pollution to build the pond; the pond can be a cement pond or an earthen pond. The walls of an earthen pond should be built with bricks or stones, or rammed tight with lime-sand-clay mixture, and the pond bottom must be rammed tight so that it is sturdy, durable and free of leaks; spread 20-30 cm of fertile mud on the pond bottom. The inlet and outlet should be blocked with wire mesh or plastic netting, and the pond bottom should slope toward the drainage outlet to facilitate drainage and harvesting.
Water preparation and stocking:
Clear and disinfect the pond according to the fry-rearing method, keep the water depth at 30-50 cm, and apply organic fertilizer such as pig manure to cultivate water quality at a rate of 20-30 kg per 100 sq m. After the drug has lost its effect and the pond water has become fertile, the loach fingerlings can be stocked; where flowing water is available, the amount can be increased appropriately.
Feeding management:
On the basis of fertilizing the water and providing natural food, it is necessary to increase the feeding of animal feed such as maggots, earthworms, mussel meat, fish meal, small trash fish and livestock and poultry offal, as well as plant feed such as wheat bran, rice bran, bean dregs and oilseed cakes, or artificial compound feed. Generally, feed once in the morning and once in the afternoon each day, with a daily feeding amount of 5%-10% of the loach's body weight. Feeding should be flexibly adjusted according to water quality, weather and feeding conditions. When the water temperature is above 15°C, the loach's appetite gradually increases; 20-30°C is the suitable temperature range for feeding, and appetite is especially strong at 25-27°C; when it exceeds 30°C or falls below 15°C, or on thunderstorm days, feeding may be omitted. In addition, reasonable fertilization should be carried out according to the fertility of the water, keeping the pond water transparency at 15-20 cm, with a yellow-green water color being preferable. When the water temperature reaches 30°C, the pond water should be changed frequently and the water depth increased; when loaches often swim to the surface to gasp for air, it indicates oxygen deficiency in the water, so fertilization should be stopped and fresh water added. In winter, the pond water depth should be increased, and stable manure such as cow dung and pig manure can be applied at the corners of the pond to raise the water temperature and ensure the loach safely overwinters.
I hope everyone can give more suggestions.

When I was little, there were still many loaches in the fields outside my home. In summer I spent all day in the fields. Later, with more pesticides and more electric batteries, now only mud and water are left in the field ditches. Loach is very tasty, especially when our family has cured meat; braised together it tastes even more delicious. I think the loach market should be quite large. In the past, it was 5 yuan per jin in our area, and now it is already 12 or 13 yuan. Quite sought after.
