Integrated control techniques for wheat stem sawfly and wheat blossom midge
The wheat stem sawfly and the wheat blossom midge are major pests of irrigated wheat. We are now in the middle pupal stage of the wheat stem sawfly and the wheat blossom midge, which is the critical period for control. Villages in the main wheat-producing areas should act actively and carry out control work well.

The recommended control measures are as follows

    I. Agricultural control

    1. Implement large-area crop rotation and stubble clearing: the wheat stem sawfly and the wheat blossom midge are monophagous pests, and wheat is the main host on which they live and reproduce. Large-area continuous cropping is the main cause of rampant damage. Therefore, implementing large-area crop rotation and stubble clearing is the fundamental measure to effectively control the occurrence and damage of the wheat stem sawfly and the wheat blossom midge.

    2. Deep plowing: after the summer harvest, remove wheat stubble and burn it in a concentrated way to reduce the overwintering pest population base, or deep plow (20-25 cm) the soil to reduce the survival rate of adult emergence from the soil the following year; damage can be basically controlled in 2-3 years.

    II. Chemical control

    1.  Soil disinfection

(1)Before sowing, use 3-4 jin of 4% dimethoate-malathion powder, add 50 kg of fine sandy soil, mix well, spread evenly, and immediately deep plow.

(2)Use 250-500 ml of 40% isofenphos-methyl emulsifiable concentrate, add 5-8 jin of water to dilute, then thoroughly mix with 40-50 kg of fine sandy soil. Before wheat heading (late May to early June), that is, at the beginning of the peak emergence period of adults, spread it evenly on the soil surface before rain (or before irrigation); the control efficacy can reach more than 60%.

    2. Spraying: spray 40% isofenphos-methyl emulsifiable concentrate at 3000 times dilution as a supplementary control against adults after emergence.
