Pest and Disease Control During Wheat Sowing Must Not Be Neglected
Pay Attention to Pest and Disease Control During Wheat Sowing
The wheat sowing season has now arrived. In recent years, wheat soil pests (mole crickets, white grubs, wireworms), soil locusts, crickets, wheat smut, wheat rosette dwarf virus disease, wheat sharp eyespot, root rot, leaf blight, and wheat take-all have all occurred to varying degrees in our county, with severe outbreaks in some fields. In order to ensure full and vigorous wheat seedlings and to ensure a bumper harvest next year, comprehensive measures should be taken during the wheat sowing period to carry out control work.
Control measures:
1. Seed selection: Choose disease- and pest-free seeds, especially seeds free of smut.
2. Carry out weed control and land clearing, and remove weeds from the fields.
3. Sow at the appropriate time. The suitable sowing period in our county is October 1-8. Sowing appropriately later can reduce the occurrence of rosette dwarf virus disease.
4. Seed treatment:
1. Mix 1 kg of 40% chlorpyrifos emulsifiable concentrate, 40% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate, or similar chemicals with 400-500 kg of wheat seed, add an appropriate amount of water and mix well, pile and cover for 4 hours before sowing. This can effectively control soil pests and also control soil locusts, planthoppers, crickets, etc.
2. Mix 80-100 g of 15% triadimefon, 20-30 g of 12.5% diniconazole, or 100 g of 70% thiophanate-methyl with 50 kg of wheat seed, pile and cover for 2-4 hours before sowing. This can control wheat smut, sharp eyespot, rust, etc.
3. Per mu, use 3% difenoconazole 50 ml + 2.5% fludioxonil 20 ml + 100 to 150 ml of water, mix evenly, then uniformly mix with 10 kg of seed or carry out seed coating to control wheat take-all; alternatively, per mu use 12.5% take-all control water suspension concentrate 20-40 ml, dilute with 150 g of water and mix with 10 kg of wheat seed. The dosage can be adjusted appropriately according to the severity of the disease.
5. Spray control: From wheat emergence to the three-leaf stage, spray with 25% kuishaling emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution. This can control planthoppers, soil locusts, and crickets. Pay special attention to applying chemicals for control at field edges, field corners, ditch edges, and intercropped wheat.
