Opinions on Pest and Disease Control from Sowing to Seedling Stage of Winter Wheat
The winter wheat sowing work in our city is about to begin. In order to do a good job in winter wheat pest and disease control and ensure the wheat seedlings are uniform and strong, our station conducted a survey on soil-dwelling pests and small brown planthoppers in the main wheat-producing areas of townships including Dibei Tou, Cuijiazhuang, Xindianzi, Dongxinzhuang, Liubeizhai, and Pingancheng from September 21 to 22, and combined with the disease incidence survey in the trapping nursery, the following control opinions are proposed.

    1. Wheat soil-dwelling pests are expected to occur lightly. Basis: white grubs 0.29 per sq m, 0.18 fewer than in previous years; wireworms 1.01 per sq m, 0.09 more than in previous years. Control measures: soil insecticides may be selected and broadcast onto the soil or mixed evenly with base fertilizer and applied into the soil together, or a seed coating agent may be selected with 50 grams diluted in 1.5-2 kg of water to dress 20-30 kg of seed.

    2. Wheat rosette dwarf disease is expected to occur lightly. Basis: the population density of small brown planthoppers is 0.003 per chi², the natural virus-carrying rate is 0.002%, the incidence of wheat rosette dwarf disease in the trapping nursery is 0.001%, and the average incidence in field weeds is 0.0001%. Control measures: spray 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 800-1000 times dilution, or 10% imidacloprid wettable powder at 1500 times dilution, 1-2 times at the seedling stage, to control small brown planthoppers, reduce virus transmission vectors, and lower the incidence of wheat rosette dwarf disease.

    3. Wheat take-all disease is expected to occur lightly. Control measures: mix 60-100 grams of 15% triadimefon wettable powder with 1 kg of water to dress 50 kg of seed, pile and cover for 4 hours, then sow.

    4. Weeds in wheat fields are expected to occur at a moderate level. According to the weed survey in the trapping nursery, the main weeds are flixweed, shepherd's purse, etc., and the average weed density is 35 plants per sq m. Weeds in winter wheat fields in our city are expected to occur at a moderate level before winter. Control measures: during the 3-6 leaf stage after emergence of winter wheat, use 10-15 grams of 10% tribenuron-methyl wettable powder per mu diluted in 30-45 kg of water for spraying.

Other measures: sow appropriately late; the best sowing period in our city is October 1-5; control excessive vegetative growth of wheat before winter.
