Pay Attention to Pest, Disease and Weed Control During the Seedling Stage of Winter Wheat
In recent years, the sowing time of winter wheat in our county has gradually been postponed from the Autumn Equinox in the 1990s to the Cold Dew wheat sowing of today. The pre-winter growth period of wheat seedlings is relatively short, so to ensure a bumper summer grain harvest next year, doing a good job of pest, disease and weed control at the seedling stage is crucial.

Pests: mainly include soil locusts, crickets, aphids and small brown planthoppers.

Soil locusts and crickets: they damage wheat seedlings,  biting and feeding on the leaves. This affects the photosynthesis of the plants.

Aphids and small brown planthoppers: they feed in wheat fields and transmit viral diseases.

    Control methods:

    1. Agricultural measures: promptly clear weeds from the edges and corners of fields  to destroy the living places of aphids and small brown planthoppers.

    2. Chemical control: spray with 4.5% beta-cypermethrin at 1500 times dilution. Or spray with 30% chlorpyrifos emulsifiable concentrate at 100 milliliters per mu.

Weed damage: in 2009, the malignant grass weed "brome" was found in individual plots of wheat fields in our county. It emerges at the same time as wheat, and autumn is the suitable period for chemical control. Therefore, farmers are advised to apply 4 grams of 70% flucarbazone-sodium water-dispersible granules per mu, mixed with 30 kilograms of water, for uniform spraying after the wheat has been sown and emerged, at the 3-5 leaf stage, when the weeds are at the 2-4 leaf stage. In addition, flucarbazone-sodium can be mixed with tribenuron-methyl and 2.4-D butyl ester; it is safe for wheat. The effect is obvious.
