Seize the favorable timing for autumn weed control in wheat fields

Seize the opportunity to do a good job of autumn weed control in wheat fields
The weeds in wheat fields in our county fall into two categories: broadleaf weeds and grass weeds. The broadleaf weeds are mainly flixweed, shepherd's purse and corn cockle, with some plots having more ball mustard and cleavers; the troublesome grass weeds are mainly bromegrass and jointed goatgrass, with a few plots having more shortawn foxtail. At present, with the growth and development of winter wheat, the weeds have been emerging one after another. Weeds in wheat fields have a great impact on wheat yield. In autumn the weeds are young and the control effect is ideal, while in spring the control effect is poor and it is easy to cause phytotoxicity to wheat and the following crop. For this reason, our station strongly advocates autumn and winter control of weeds in wheat fields.

    Control methods:

    1. Wheat fields dominated by grass weeds

The control time is set at the 3-leaf stage of wheat (late October to early November), as follows: for wheat fields dominated by bromegrass and shortawn foxtail, use 3 g of 70% fenoxaprop-p-ethyl per mu plus 10 g of special adjuvant, and spray evenly with 30-40 kg of water; for wheat fields dominated by jointed goatgrass, use 30-40 ml of 3% mesosulfuron per mu plus special adjuvant, or 20-25 g of 3.6% mesosulfuron-iodosulfuron water-dispersible granules plus special adjuvant, and spray with 30 kg of water.

    2. Wheat fields dominated by broadleaf weeds

From late November to early December, when watering the freezing water or taking advantage of the moist soil surface after rain, spray for control. For plots dominated by flixweed, shepherd's purse and corn cockle, use 10% tribenuron-methyl and other wheat field herbicides per mu, and spray with 30 kg of water; for wheat fields dominated by ball mustard and cleavers, use 7-10 g of 36% tribenuron-methyl mixture per mu, or 2 g of 40% carfentrazone plus 8 g of 10% tribenuron-methyl, and spray with 30 kg of water.

    3. For wheat fields with mixed infestation of grass weeds and broadleaf weeds

A mixture of tribenuron-methyl or the tribenuron-methyl mixture with fenoxaprop-p-ethyl or mesosulfuron can be used.

    Precautions:

    1. When preparing the agent, use the two-step dilution method, that is, first use a small amount of water to make a mother liquor, then add water according to the dilution ratio, stir fully and spray evenly. Choose clear and windless weather for application, with 30 kg of water per mu.

    2. The wheat fields to be treated, especially those using mesosulfuron-iodosulfuron and mesosulfuron herbicides, require sufficient base fertilizer and robust wheat seedlings. Do not flood irrigate heavily 2 days before and after application. When spraying, it is best to use a fan-shaped nozzle, without overlapping or missing sprays. After using mesosulfuron, wheat will show yellowing, and the symptoms disappear after 3-4 weeks without affecting yield; stop application when the minimum temperature is below 4°C.
