How to Make and Use Plastic Film Nets for Silkworms
The practice of many silkworm farmers in our county shows that using plastic film nets to lift silkworms has the advantages of easy access to materials, low cost, saving time and labor, and not injuring the silkworm body. The production and use methods of plastic film nets are introduced as follows:

    1. Production of plastic film nets Two types of nets of different specifications need to be made from different plastic films, namely young silkworm nets and mature silkworm nets. Their specifications are: young silkworm net, plastic film length 1-1.1 m, width 0.8 m, hole diameter 6.5 mm, hole spacing 6.5 mm; mature silkworm net, plastic film length 1.5-1.6 m, width 1 m, hole diameter 12 mm, hole spacing 12-15 mm. The specific production method is: lay clean agricultural medium film or thick film flat on a cement floor (generally medium film for young silkworm nets and thick film for mature silkworm nets), then use a cylindrical tool such as a bicycle pedal axle tube sleeve to punch holes according to the above specifications. To improve work efficiency, several sheets of film can be stacked flat together for punching.

    2. Method of lifting silkworms with plastic film nets Before lifting silkworms, first generally apply No. 1 disease-prevention medicinal powder once; then, according to the different instars of the silkworms, lay the young silkworm net or mature silkworm net flat on the silkworm body in the tray, and sparsely scatter some mulberry leaves on the net; after about 10-15 minutes, wait until the silkworms crawl from the holes onto the plastic film net, then two people lift the plastic film net flat from opposite sides, gently pour the silkworms together with the leaves into a prepared empty silkworm tray, and pick up the few silkworms left behind in the original tray. According to tests, using plastic film nets to lift silkworms can save 1/2 to 2/3 of labor.

After sericulture is finished, clean and disinfect the plastic film nets, and store them properly for use again in the next silkworm season. Plastic film nets can generally be used for 4-5 years.
