Goji Berry Root Rot (Rot Type)
    Disease name:  Goji Berry Root Rot (Rot Type)

    Scientific name:  fusarium oxysporum? schlecht

    Disease symptoms and occurrence patterns

    Field disease symptoms

    It was first discovered in 1973, and in recent years the incidence rate has been rising year by year. Goji berry generally begins to develop the disease 2 to 3 years after planting; for 4- to 5-year-old plants the incidence rate is generally above 20%, and after 6 to 7 years they tend to decline. The main symptom is that the cortex of the root crown or branches turns brown or black and rots, and the vascular bundles turn brown. The leaf tips first turn yellow, then gradually scorch and curl upward; when the rotting cortex encircles the trunk, all leaves above the diseased part drop off and the trunk dies. In some cases the leaves suddenly wilt and die, but the dead leaves still hang on the tree. This phenomenon mostly occurs in the high-temperature season of July to August. Within a stand it occurs in patches.

    The above type also often manifests as disease on half the canopy, with half wilting, or only a single branch becoming diseased and wilting. In some cases the trunk dies of disease, while new suckers grow from the root crown.

    Control methods :

    1. Improve cultivation conditions by changing flat planting in goji orchards to ridged planting with soil mounding, to reduce water accumulation in the goji root zone and avoid root injury during cultivation;

    2. Drench the roots with a 1000- to 1500-fold dilution of 50% thiophanate-methyl solution or a 1000- to 1500-fold dilution of 50% carbendazim solution.
