Raising pigs without pens easily leads to the spread of disease

Raising pigs without pens will spread disease
To raise pigs well, strengthening feeding management and enhancing the pigs' disease resistance are key. The scientific method is to keep them in pens and feed them in pens, not letting pigs run around and eat randomly, to prevent infection. There is a folk saying in China that "raising pigs without pens will spread disease," and it makes sense.
Some people believe that free-range pigs are free of disease and disaster, easy to raise, and grow fast. This claim is unscientific. Free-range pigs expend a lot of energy, and not only do they not put on fat, but they also have more chances of getting sick. For example, swine fever can be transmitted through the mouth, nasal cavity, conjunctiva, reproductive tract mucosa, and skin abrasions; when infected pigs come into contact with healthy pigs, the chances of infection increase. Another example is pigs with acne, which is caused by free-range pigs running around and eating randomly and swallowing the feces of people with tapeworm disease. Yet another example is leptospirosis, a zoonotic disease; if the feces excreted by sick pigs contaminate the grain and drinking water people consume, it is very easy to transmit the disease to people.
Free-range pigs not only spread disease, but also lead to random mating and breeding, causing inferior heredity. It can be seen that if this backward method of raising pigs is not changed early, the consequences will be endless.
To improve pig-raising efficiency, it is necessary to change the traditional habit of free-range pig raising, implement pen raising, ensure that people have toilets and pigs have pens, strictly enforce epidemic prevention systems, and cut off the routes by which pigs become infected with diseases.
To effectively use pig manure accumulated from raising pigs, save feed, shorten the fattening period, and reduce disease, free-range raising must be changed to pen raising, so as to achieve low-consumption and high-efficiency breeding benefits. At present, the pig-raising industry is shifting from small-scale scattered raising to large-scale intensive raising, which not only requires modern feeding and management methods, but also puts forward new requirements for pig disease prevention and control. Therefore, establishing and improving a pig farm disease control system cannot be ignored.
