Why do newborn piglets need their teeth clipped? An explanation of the reasons

Newborn piglets should have their teeth clipped
After birth, piglets often fight each other to get a teat, which commonly causes 3 problems: first, when piglets fight over teats they use their canine teeth to strike each other and bite each other's cheeks, and once infected by bacteria and inflamed, this will affect their nursing; second, when piglets vie for teats their sharp canine teeth will bite the sow's teats or udder, causing the sow pain and restlessness, refusing to nurse, and seriously affecting the piglets' growth and development; third, because of the pain the sow will frequently lie down and get up, stepping on and crushing the piglets. Therefore, when the piglets are born, it is best to clip off the canine teeth, so as to ensure the sow's normal nursing and the piglets' healthy growth and development.
Teeth clipping is generally done after more than half of the piglets have been delivered or after farrowing is complete, when the sow is relatively quiet due to exhaustion. The method of teeth clipping is: use the thumb and index finger of one hand to pinch between the upper and lower jaws of the piglet (that is, the corners of the mouth on both sides), forcing the piglet to open its mouth and expose the canine teeth, then use tooth clippers or electrician's diagonal pliers to clip off the left and right pairs of canine teeth respectively. When clipping the teeth, be careful not to injure the gums and tongue. Be careful not to let the piglet swallow the clipped tooth fragments.
