Practical Tips for Cleverly Using Cheap Additives in Pig Farming
Cleverly Using Cheap Additives in Pig Farming
During periods when pig farming is running at a loss, every possible means should be used to reduce costs. Reasonably adding some cheap mineral additives to pig feed can promote growth, prevent and treat pig diseases, save feed grain, lower costs, and greatly improve the economic returns of pig farming. Several commonly used pig feed additives are introduced below for reference and selection by pig farms and pig farmers.
Coal ash residue
Coal ash residue not only contains various mineral elements needed by pigs, such as phosphorus, potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, zinc and manganese, but also contains a new type of pig growth regulator - humic acid. Feeding it to pigs can directly strengthen the vital activity of various enzymes, promote metabolism, and increase the accumulation of organic matter in the body. Adding 3%-5% coal ash residue to the pig diet can regulate the salts and alkalis in the pig's body, increase the growth rate, reduce disease, and effectively prevent pig diarrhea, constipation, asthma and other diseases, significantly reducing the mortality rate.
Bentonite
Bentonite, commonly known as "white clay," contains not only large amounts of silicon and aluminum compounds, but also more than 20 kinds of mineral elements needed by pigs, such as phosphorus, potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, zinc, manganese, cobalt, chromium, calcium, barium and titanium. These elements are components of enzymes, hormones and biologically active substances, and can cause obvious changes in the activity or immune performance of enzymes and hormones. First, bentonite has good palatability and adsorption, and can delay the speed at which feed passes through the digestive tract, so that pigs can effectively utilize nutrients and improve nutrient digestibility; second, bentonite also has many special physical and chemical properties, and can adsorb harmful substances in the pig's body, inhibit the growth of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, improve resistance, and promote growth and development; third, it replaces grain as a carrier for various trace elements, prevents an imbalance in the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, participates in body metabolism and immune reactions, and improves the survival rate of pigs. Bentonite generally has a very good effect when added to the pig diet at 2%-4%.
Zeolite
Zeolite is a natural silicate mineral containing 18 kinds of macroelements and most trace elements needed for pig growth and development, such as calcium, phosphorus, iron and copper. It is a very ideal natural mineral feed additive, and its price is low. Its interior has a crystalline structure with many channels and cavities, and the volume of the channels (cavities) accounts for more than 50% of the total volume of the zeolite. It has strong adsorption capacity, can adsorb harmful gases such as methane and ethane in the intestine as well as toxins from Escherichia coli and Salmonella, and can inhibit the growth and reproduction of harmful bacteria. For example, if 3%-5% zeolite powder is added to the pig diet, the average weight gain of pigs can increase by 10%; it can prevent pig diarrhea, infectious gastroenteritis, bronchitis and rickets; if fed to sows, it can accelerate intrauterine growth, prevent stillbirth, improve the survival rate, save 70% of medical costs, reduce odor, and improve the feeding environment. The water content of pig manure decreases, the pen is clean and dry, and pig farm hygiene is fully improved, which is conducive to the growth and development of pigs.
Medical stone
Medical stone is a natural health-care medicinal stone with biological activity. It is a rock with a specific structure and trace element combination formed by the weathering of granite. First, the metal elements it contains are extremely soluble in dilute acid. When it passes through the pig's stomach and intestines, it can release the contained elements, which are directly utilized by the pig. In particular, the trace elements it contains, such as nickel, titanium and selenium, are activating substances for enzymes in the pig's body, and can improve enzyme activity and the utilization rate of feed nutrients. Second, medical stone has good adsorbability and ion exchange capacity, and can selectively adsorb bacteria in the pig's digestive tract, thereby playing a disease-prevention role. The appropriate amount of medical stone added to the pig diet is 1%-3%.
Others
Yellow clay: In mountainous and hilly areas, yellow clay from deep layers more than one meter below the surface contains not only large amounts of iron and copper compounds, but also more than 20 kinds of mineral elements needed by pigs. Adding 2%-4% yellow clay to the pig diet has obvious effects on increasing appetite, improving weight gain and preventing disease.
Mirabilite: Adding 0.5%-0.6% mirabilite to pig feed increases daily weight gain by 20% and feed utilization rate by 15%, and the pigs are healthy with fewer diseases, glossy hair, a strong appetite, and normal urination and defecation.
Copper sulfate: Adding 0.25% copper sulfate to pig feed can increase the daily weight gain of pigs by 16%, increase the feed utilization rate by 5%, and reduce feeding costs by about 4%.
Zinc sulfate: Adding 10 mg-20 mg per small pig per day, and 30 mg-50 mg for large pigs, can make pigs have a strong appetite, smooth hair, fewer diseases and fast growth.
