Weaving steps for 8 stalks of lucky bamboo
8 stalks is a fairly small number, so they are usually woven into a flat gourd shape.
1. Trimming and tidying
Choose several stalks of lucky bamboo that are growing vigorously and have straight stems, trim the roots, and cut off the leaves and branches at the top, keeping 4-6 leaves and exposing clean stems. After trimming, leave them in a cool, ventilated place to dry, and make sure no water remains on the stems.
2. Tying
Using simple plastic string, ribbon, or similar, tie the lucky bamboo stalks together in pairs, making 3 knots from top to bottom.
3. Forming the shape
Take the 4 pairs of tied lucky bamboo and arrange them crossed in pairs, then tie and knot them again to form the flat gourd shape shown in the picture below. Be careful not to tie them too tightly.
4. Potting
Choose a flower pot of an appropriate size and plant the woven lucky bamboo into it. Be careful not to plant it too deep, so as not to affect the roots' breathing.
Weaving steps for 10 stalks of lucky bamboo
With 10 or more stalks of lucky bamboo, you can weave them into a cylinder shape.
1. Shaping and arranging
Lay the trimmed lucky bamboo flat on the ground and arrange them neatly, with 7-10 cm between each stalk.
Then lay another 10 stalks of lucky bamboo diagonally across on top, as shown in the picture below:
2. Tying
Tie all the crossing points together with simple string.
3. Standing them upright
Lift all the lucky bamboo up, bend and close the two sides, then tie with string to form a cylinder.
4. Potting
After weaving is complete, spread the lucky bamboo open a certain amount from the top of the cylinder to make sure each stem has enough room to stretch out, then plant it along the edge of the pot. When planting, add more nutrient soil and sand to the pot to increase the drainage of the potting soil.
How do you care for lucky bamboo after weaving?
Complete Guide to Houseplants
1. Avoid direct sunlight
Lucky bamboo likes shade and fears strong light, so in summer you must shade it and keep it indoors in a spot with diffused light, avoiding direct strong sunlight.
2. Water more
Lucky bamboo is tolerant of moisture and waterlogging, so in summer water it once a day and often spray the leaves to raise the air humidity.
3. Do not fertilize too much
For potted lucky bamboo, applying potassium dihydrogen phosphate once a month is enough. Water-cultured lucky bamboo does not need fertilizer; you can add a few drops of ferrous sulfate solution each month.
